Sigrid Kaag is the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation (2017). Previously, she served as the Under-Secretary-General in Lebanon with responsibility for all UN activities in the country. She was also the UN Under-Secretary-General leading the mission to eliminate chemical weapons in Syria, prior to which she served as the Assistant-Secretary-General for UNDP in New York, and as the UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa in Amman.
Ms. Kaag holds an MA in Middle East Studies from the University of Exeter, the UK. She has also completed an MPhil in International Relations from Oxford University and a BA in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo.
