CHILDREN ON THE MOVE
DEAD SEA, JORDAN, MARCH 2018
Recognising the rapidly growing numbers of displaced and refugee children worldwide, the Second Laureates and Leaders for Children Summit focused on children on the move, under the gracious patronage of HM King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein in Jordan.
ABOUT THE 2018 SUMMIT
21 Nobel Laureates and World Leaders and 400 distinguished guests joined us in March 2018. Young people living in Za’atari refugee camp also joined an international youth delegation participating in the Summit, coordinated by the 100 Million campaign.

The Summit revisited the definition and key drivers of children on the move and in crisis, rapidly becoming a norm in our changing world, while examining specific achievable actions to prioritise and protect children from exploitation, trafficking, slavery and abuse and ensure their education. Highlighting what is working, the Summit explored what can be accelerated, what was missing and more importantly the role government, business, technology, media, academia, faith leaders and individuals can play.

Through a series of lively interactive dialogues, Summit participants discussed ideas and actions to protect children on the move. Young people’s voices were central – youth displaced by conflict and climate change/natural disasters, and survivors of exploitation, alongside Laureates and Leaders – shared their stories, experiences, ideas and inspiration for change. Summit participants contributed to an action plan for children and youth in crisis.
The Summit’s Dead Sea Declaration called for greater investment to ensure every child’s right to a safe and healthy life, free of all forms of violence and abuse. The Declaration also called for increased focus on the child-centric SDGs and committed Laureates and Leaders to work towards these goals.
